Ember provides a very low level binary which when loaded on to a chip makes the chip act as a sniffer on a particular channel. This binary is baked into InSight Desktop and can be loaded on to a device in one of the two following ways:
1) Connect your node to an InSight Adapter. Right-click on this adapter in InSight Desktop's "Adapters" view and select "Connect". Once the connection is complete, right click on the adapter again and select "Make a sniffer". This will start loading the sniffer binary on to your chip.
2) Connect your node to InSight Adapter. Right click on this adapter in InSight Desktop's "Adapters" view and select "Connect". Once connection is complete, right click on the adapter again and select "Upload application". In the ensuing pop-up, scroll to the top of the list and select "Sniffer" (usually the first image in the list), make sure the box next to "Bootloader" is unchecked, and click "OK". This will load the sniffer binary in to your node.
Once the upload of the image is done, your sniffer should be ready to start capturing packets on Channel 11. To change the sniffer to a different channel, right click on the adapter and select "Sniffer channel..." and select the right channel. Once this setup is complete, right click on the adapter again and select "Start capture"
NOTE: There are some known problems in some versions of InSight Desktop prior to 2.5 build 26. So, please upgrade your InSight Desktop to the latest build, either through InSight Desktop's built-in "Help ==> Update now..." utility or by fetching the complete installer from the support portal (https://ssl.salesforce.com/a0000000001i7IF).
