How to make Bourbon Apple Pie Syrup
- Lazy chop the apple into slices or chunks. Discard the core.
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, add the apple pieces, maple syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and water. When the mixture begins to boil, slowly add the tapioca flour a little bit at a time and stir the pot until what you’ve added has completely dissolved. This will prevent it from clumping and a chunky syrup! Continue to stir occasionally while the mixture boils and thickens for about 8-10 minutes. The liquid should boil down to half of what you started with.
- Once the liquid has reduced by half, add in the bourbon and let it cook out some of the alcohol for 2-3 more minutes. The flavor of the bourbon will remain, but it will remove any bite from the alcohol. We used Knob Creek Smoked Maple Bourbon Whiskey because you can never have too much maple in your syrup!
- Remove the mixture from the heat and transfer it to a glass or heat-safe bowl. Stir in the vanilla extract, and let cool completely for 1 hour.
- Once the mixture is cooled, add to a blender or processor and blend until the apple has been completely liquified. Strain the mixture into a sealable glass bottle and keep it in the refrigerator where it can be stored for up to four months.
How to make the latte
- Brew the espresso and pour it into your Ember Mug 2. For this recipe, we recommend Onyx Coffee Labs Southern Weather Medium-Dark Roast which is guaranteed to deliver a rich espresso flavor with hints of chocolate, nuts, and plum.
- Add one shot of the Bourbon Apple Pie syrup to the espresso and stir to combine.
- In a small saucepan, add your milk and place over low heat. Whisk the mixture until it begins to resemble a light foam. Check out some other ways you can steam milk at home.
- Pour the frothed milk over the espresso. Impress your friends with some latte art.
- Enjoy!
No problem! Aeropress or Moka pot coffee make great, concentrated alternatives to espresso. You can also use your usual brewing method and just make an extra-strong batch.
Non-alcoholic option
If you would like to skip bourbon, all you need to do is add an extra ⅓ cup of water in step 2 of the syrup-making process.
Make it deluxe!
- Add some whipped cream to make this latte extra decadent!
- If your sweet tooth isn’t satisfied, we also recommend a drizzle of caramel sauce.
This Bourbon Apple Pie Syrup is more than just a sweet addition to your latte. Consider dropping a drizzle over pancakes, french toast, waffles, vanilla ice cream, oatmeal, and anything else you want to add a taste of fall to.
We know that this Bourbon Apple Pie Latte will be your newest obsession this season. You should always experience this one-of-a-kind hot delight in a one-of-a-kind mug like the Ember Mug 2 or an Ember Travel Mug - perfect for apple-picking adventures.
