Sweet Ube Latte

Sweet Ube Latte

October 07, 2024

Crisp air, chunky sweaters, and... purple lattes? That's right! This fall, we're shaking things up with a sweet ube latte that's bound to become your new seasonal obsession. If you haven't met Ube yet, prepare to fall in love with this Filipino purple yam whose taste is comparable to a sweet potato but with a lighter flavor profile and subtle vanilla undertones. You can find Ube in a powder form that is perfect for lattes and other recipes. Combined with espresso, steamed milk, and a touch of sweetness, creates a warm, comforting drink that's as unique as it is delicious. Ready to add some purple to your autumn routine?

Directions

  1. Brew the espresso and pour it into your Ember Mug 2. For this recipe, we recommend Brandywine Coffee Roaster’s Colombia Santa Barbara Estate for its sweet brown sugary taste with a hint of dark cherry.
  2. Add the milk, simple syrup, and ube powder to a small saucepan and place over low heat. Whisk the mixture until it begins to resemble a light purple foam.
  3. Pour the Purple milk mixture over the coffee. Don’t forget to make some beautiful purple latte art!
  4. Enjoy!
No espresso machine?

No problem! Aeropress or Moka pot coffee make great, concentrated alternatives to espresso. You can also use your usual brewing method and just make an extra-strong batch.

Make it deluxe!
Replace the simple syrup or honey with 1 tablespoon of vanilla bean syrup to enhance the ube in your latte. We recommend J.T. Copper’s Vanilla Bean Syrup to elevate your latte with decadent flavor. If your sweet tooth isn’t satisfied, be sure to top your Sweet Ube latte with some whipped cream!

We hope that this Filipino-inspired purple latte will help you fully embrace the cozy season. To fully appreciate this purple delight’s subtle flavors consider enjoying it at the perfect temperature in an Ember Mug 2.
