Anyone familiar with the history of a hot toddy knows this drink is perfect for feeling all warm and toasty, as it is essentially a liquor-infused tea. While something like a spiked St. Patrick’s Day tea shares many similarities with that of a hot toddy and is great for a festive spring day, winter is the perfect time to warm up your bones with boozy beverages bursting with seasonal spices.

Hot toddies have also been used as a remedy for the common cold since the 1800s. This means that when it starts getting chilly outside, knowing how to make a hot toddy is a great bit of wisdom for a delicious bit of medicine.

No matter if your favorite spirit is vodka, whiskey, or something in between, we’ve got a hot toddy recipe for you; the Caramel Apple Hot Toddy, Chai Hot Toddy, and Peppermint Hot Toddy each call for a different kind of alcohol.

Here are our three favorite hot toddy recipes to whip up this season.

While containing different ingredients, all three of these hot toddy recipes follow the same steps for preparation:

Directions

  1. Combine the ingredients on a stove-top pan.
  2. Warm over medium heat and simmer until ready to drink.
  3. Pour the drink into your Ember Mug²and set at 133°F.
  4. Enjoy!
